The Unknown Uncle: First, I like the fact that you didn't name him. With a nod to Rhapsy's very cool review in these comments, this leaves it open to the mind of the reader and reflects how one views the prism. I saw the very tall titian-haired dude. :^) I expect this is strongly influenced by AMC canon which depicts Maedhros as the vessel of Fëanáro and Nerdanel's nolwë. Maedhros' scholarship concerning the natural world (his experiments with breeding roses as one example), seems consistent with him pointing out an unusual marine invertebrate to his nephew.
The SHG - a fabulous idea! Oooh, I know! I know! Add a "Heresy" tag to the "Warnings" drop-down menu! :^D
