I kind of forced his hand. We'd started an RPG and I introduced the notion of doing the role-playing part online (since none of us were comfortable with "acting" in-character), and he agreed. And I said, "Well, I'm running it through LJ, so you'll need an LJ account...."

I doubt that would work for you, though, but that was my nefarious method. >:^]]
