Before I begin blabbering about the upcoming weekend, there is a meme going around that asks willing meme-sheep to share with their flist at large their desktop image. Well, mine at work is so thrilling, so seat-of-your-pants exciting, that I decided to participate. Now be forewarned. This image is really hott and really just...breathtaking. I know of no other way to describe it. You all will bow to my creativity on this one.

Are you ready?

Are you sure??

No, my friends, your eyes do not deceive you. That is a bona fide Windows XP default desktop background. When they plugged in my comp, that's what popped up. Well, after a bit of digital grunting, some black screens, and a few puzzling strings of characters that puzzled the relatively computer-unfriendly 'gund. You might ask how I can bear such excitement, day in and day out. It's not easy, but I try. One of the reasons is that our agency is funny about downloads. Recently, there was a crackdown at the good ol' Maryland P&P. What was it, you ask? Did they insist that professional agents making 50K a year learn how to use that cutting-edge technology that those of us among the digerati know as...email? Did they insist on a level of competence from agents that includes learning how to capitalize the pronoun "i"? Oh, no. It was worse than that.

They cracked down on downloaded desktop backgrounds. Those cute little kitty-cats and fluffy clouds leaking rainbows had to go. Because that is the root of all the incompetence in our agency: The amount of time that we spend gazing at our desktop backgrounds and drooling on ourselves from the excitement of it.

(Now, we're guv'ment employees. We really don't need a reason to stare into space and drool for a few hours each day. On the clock, of course.)

The second reason that I have resorted to such an extreme, mind-boggling background is because when I am on my computer, I am not looking at my background. No...like any good guv'ment employee, I am checking my personal email, working on my novel (well, maybe I'm sorta unique in that), or surfing the 'net. (Note that, right alongside my work-related programs like CJIS and the warrant logs are Comcast and my LJ flist, for example.) So I never see my background anyway.

Which is good. Because I don't know if I could take it for the more than three-second doses that it takes me to log out or open up the Investigation Checklist from the desktop shortcut.

Edit: Apparently I cut off the bottom of the image while doctoring it in that elite program given only to top-secret guv'ment employees (like myself) that we call--for short--"Paint." So you'll have to take my word on the bit about having my flist and email opened next to the warrant logs.

Onto bigger things, this weekend, I am going to be busy. So if you don't see me around much, I'm not dead or being any ruder than usual. I'm likely 1) out-of-state or 2) in the company of other normal-shaped-eared human beings who, sadly enough, cannot name all of the sons of Feanor in Quenya. (Though Potter and Bobby can make a good start of it.)

Tonight, we're going to my parents' for a cook-out, then maybe to see Cars.

Tomorrow is, of course, the Hershey Bears game, but our friends Cindy and Andy will probably be coming over early and having lunch with us, then hanging out.

Sunday, Bobby has a roller-hockey game in the morning and an ice-hockey game at night. So I will have a couple hours of free time, but that will probably mostly involve me trying to finish up the Silmarillion readings to be posted during my vacation by the ever-helpful and wonderful [livejournal.com profile] digdigil.

Monday, it's back to work, and we start the long slide into the weekend and Puerto Rico!

I'm not excited or anything....
