The exploration of Eressetor's thoughts about the sort of people he's really attracted to is very intriguing and well-written
Thank you! One of my purposes in this story was to explore these ideas a bit. On one hand, I felt like I was on foreign soil. I am not gay--even bisexual!--and the most "firsthand" experience I have is with being close to Sharon and seeing what she's experienced. But I suppose it's like taking on any character that's not a pure self-insert, and I've done the best that I can. :)
I don't want to turn a lot of my comments into "your slash story vs. all those other slash stories," but it's interesting to see this conflict explored like this, without it coming across like an annoying soap opera of some sort (does slash need that much more "weeping?" ;))
LMAO!! Evol!PKat! >:^D
Your evolness aside (which I already knew, btw), I think that my slash differs from a lot of other slashes in the purpose in writing it. Frankly, writing sex has become rather boring to me. It's all "insert tab A in slot B" with panting and pawing and the occasional leakage of body fluids...but once you've done a love scene once, it's hard to find something new to explore in the future. For me, anyway. So I didn't approach this story as "OMG I want to write hott Elf-on-Elf action!!!!" Not that there's anything wrong with that pursuit; writing erotica seems as natural for most adult-aged writers as writing "Mary Sue" for younger writers. It's a healthy way to explore fantasies...but that wasn't my point in writing this story.
I wanted to explore what you mentioned at the beginning of your comment: How an Elf raised in a society where everyone has one opposite-gender spouse whom he unequivocally loves for the whole of time reacts to the knowledge that he is waaaay different from his peers. I don't think that this makes this story any better or worse than "PWP" slash...just different. :)
There is sex in this story, but I hope that it accomplishes a point greater than "OMG hott males banging each other!" It's certainly not the pretty lovey-dovey stuff of many slashes...and I'm saying no more 'cause I'll end up giving my own story away. ;)
No offense meant to people who like soap operas or the sorts of things I was describing above, of course...
Of course not! :) I will admit that I like to read even horrible PWP sometimes, slash and het both. But when it comes time to write it...it feels so tedious. So I suppose that I am very one-way in the PWP community, all take and no give! :^D
I almost feel like I could punch the screen in front of me while reading a chapter and hit one of the characters, and get a really nasty look in response or something. (Of course, this is when I've stayed up too late and my sanity is even more questionable than usual, but still! :D)
Lol! I've never heard my characterizations described in quite that way before, but I take that as a great compliment! :^D Though please don't try it; I don't want to be responsible for any bruised knuckles or angry muses. ;)
