As do I, Dawn, as do I... But then, this is coming from a perv who has no qualms slashing close blood relatives... And has tremendous fun while doing so.
Eh. All in good fun. You could be doing worse. ;)
(Of course, I was a beta for said story. And had tremendous fun doing the five readings it took to get my thoughts in coherent order. >:^] )
For me, of course, there is also the issue of my sister. It pisses me off to no end that she cannot live in her homeland because she is somehow unacceptable to certain nutjob idiots. Pardon me for being blunt, but who the fuck do they think they are to presume such a right? *grinds teeth*
(Btw, on the subject of your stories, if you haven't checked your MEFA reviews, I left you one for "On Frozen Shores"....)
Can you tell I think my Noldo beyond genius?
You know, I'm still not sure of all of Feanaro's motivations in this story. I know that he claims to be interested in the insight Eressetor would give, being a child of parents whom he sees in a situation much like his and Nerdanel's. But he also knows Eressetor's sordid past (though Eressetor would gladly die if he knew this)...so maybe....
Funny enough, while reading "Salt" (I had it printed at work and I was reading it at home, during a violent thunderstorm), I was constantly awed by all the impressive, original images, elements, reactions and emotions, to the point where I was sorry that you can't publish the story. True, taking out the Tolkien out of "Salt" would take the sense out of the story, but I still think that works such as this particular story of yours deserve much more attention than they get in the limited world of fandom.
First of all, thank you. That is a lovely compliment indeed! I have this false level of confidence about trying to get started again with publishing my original work, but really, I am quite the scaredy-cat. ;)
My plans for "Salt" are two-fold. For one, I think that it is going to be part of a series of stories (that also includes "Paper") that delves into the psychology of characters using their relationships with ordinary objects. Both of these stories were such fun to write, so insightful for me as an author, and remain two of my most popular pieces. (I am still bowled over at the praise "Salt" received. I had been so uneasy about that story.)
Secondly, once I am comfortable with that sort of story--being as fanfic is really just a big experiment for me to practice writing in a non-threatening (mostly) environment--then I hope to carry the idea into my original work. Probably the Midhavens stuff first, since those characters are nearly as familiar as Feanorians by now to me. ;)
So that's the Grand Plan. Don't know how or if it will work, but as Bobby is fond of saying, I's a'gonna try. ;)
