The splitter is easy to explain. You know what a splitter is, yes? One of those devices that lets you plug two sets of headphones into the same jack.
Back in the summer of 2004, in the before-time when I had a real job, it was at the TV-documentary place. I found a little splitter lying abandoned on the floor, picked it up, and put it in my purse. It's not quite as long as my thumb, so it stayed in my purse so I wouldn't lose it. From there, it traveled to Grad School Town, where it got a fair amount of use, and has stayed in my purse ever since.
