1. The funny thing is despite loving this pairing and reading almost anything (including some embarrassingly bad) about Maedhros/Fingon, I have only ever written that one story, "Discovering Love." In BtLoR, I kept Maedhros pointedly not gay.
(I can't wait to read the new chapter, btw! Hopefully this afternoon...)
3 and 4. Having come in with the movies, I was never much for Legolas. I can't say that with the books, that wouldn't have been different, but he will always to me be a fangurling icon. Which is odd, since I heavily fangurl Maedhros and Feanor...I'm a hopeless hypocrite, I guess. ;) In a way, I would have loved to have known where my interests would have fallen, had I read LotR before seeing the movie.
5. Guilty here as well, considering that I have a canon character (Carnistir) and an OFC (his wife Taryinde) who are "telepaths" and I use this tactic quite a bit between Nerdanel and Feanor as well, not to mention the fact that my Unbegotten Elves by default are skilled with the osanwe. I don't see a problem with it; it's fun to explore a form of communication that we don't have, to imagine how it would work. For this reason, I love also writing about magic in my original fantasy; it's an interesting challenge.
