Sillyfic Meme

dawn_felagund: Skeleton embracing young girl (Default)
Jenni has asked me to share the sillyfic I wrote spur-of-the-moment in answer to [livejournal.com profile] nienna_weeper's request that the next time I tell a spider story, it involve spiders being slain by hott Elves. Okay, I said. Can do.

I had hoped that the story would moulder away unseen in the comments section of that post, but Jenni found it and poked me and here I am.

So--to lessen the embarassment of posting intentional sillyfic in my LJ (whoever's laughing and saying, "What's new about that?" stop it! :^P)--I have turned it into a meme. Because the basis actually was really fun.

I want you to envision your life as a Tolkien sillyfic, full of all the melodramatic angst, bad sex, and shoddy descriptions that you can muster in few words. Pick an ordinary event in your life and write a short sillyfic about the scene using Tolkien's characters. Naturally, you're free to embellish all you want and change details, but the premise should be based in real life.

For example, I had an encounter with a spider in the bathroom that resulted in this sillyfic. Now I was not in the bathtub when this happened. I was not...erm..."self-sparring." And I am not Erestor. But we were both frightened by a large spider in the bathroom while pining for our absent lover. So there is a connection, however frail it may be.

Stuck in traffic? Frustrated by all the schoolwork you have to do? Have a crush on someone? I smell sillyfic....

As told by just about every handbook on writing out there, write what you know. It often is that a real life story or encounter that has your audience laughing, crying, or cringing whenever you tell it can be good fodder for a story....

Or just fodder for fun with sillyfic.

Most of all, have fun with this! We're not trying to win Pulitzers here!

So here's my sillyfic, based off of my Experiences with the Spider, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] nienna_weeper and shared because of the gently prodding by [livejournal.com profile] digdigil. Be forewarned that it is slash. Be forewarned that it is Third Age and we all know that Dawn Just Doesn't Do Third Age. Be forewarned that it was written on a whim and is, well...silly.

Sillyfic: 'Slaying Spiders' )
While I'm flinging memes left and right today....

Stoled from [livejournal.com profile] nienna_weeper and [livejournal.com profile] phyncke. Mine turned out hopelessly boring, but here goes:

  1. baltimore ravens:
They're the home team, hon! I've always been a supporter of the local sports teams, for better or for worse (usually for worse). I discovered football the year the Ravens won the Super Bowl, and since then, I've loved my team. My poor Ray Lewis jersey is barely decipherable any more from being washed so much.
  2. conversation:
What a better way to learn new things? One of the things I love most about my husband is the way we can talk to each other. My dearest friends, also, are people who teach and inspire me through conversation.
  3. elven fantasy:
Because Oh Yay, Elves Are Cool. (I can hear my husband tittering 5,000 miles away!) Of all of the fantasy creatures, Elves are my favorites. There's so many aspects of "Elvishness" to explore in stories that I feel I could write for a lifetime and not discover all that I wish to discover.
  4. figure skating:
I have been a freestyle rollerskater for more than half my life now. Figure skating gives the delusion of ease and grace but don't be fooled...it's hard as hell! Skating has given me a lot of confidence that I lacked before and is great fun. Fourteen years, and I'm still not tired of it!
  5. freedom of religion:
This is a biggie for me. I am an American agnostic and--at times--I feel threatened by certain lunatic factions in my country. Personally, I love having friends of different beliefs, backgrounds, and religions; to stifle this kind of diversity, to me, seems a tremendous shame. We have so much to learn from each other.
  6. ice cream:
Not eating it, believe it or not...making it! I am the aspiring owner of my own ice cream/confections shop. Ice cream and candy are such simple joys; few things make me happier these days then seeing people's faces light up when they try one of my recipes.
  7. lord of the rings:
Well, I have this inkling of a fondness for Tolkien, if you haven't noticed. Actually, my true love is The Silmarillion, but it was LotR--the movies, then the book--that turned me on to Tolkien in the first place.
  8. nfl:
*see #1* Actually, I might have to remove this interest because I'm officially pissed at the NFL. No Fun League. Or maybe No Fair League would be better. Until they start hiring professional referees instead of the wannabe sots that they employ right now, then they can kiss my continued attention goodbye and--more importantly--my money. I'll root for my Ravens but that's about it.
  9. rollerskating:
*see #4!* This goes along with figure skating. For me, the closest I know to flying is skating.
  10. statistics:
Well, it's my job. I am a research analyst, a big part of which is running statistics. In uni, I was one of the few people who did well in the stats class that was required of psychology majors...and liked it. I am fascinated by the notion that trends and behaviors can be brought beyond the abstract and quantified. Okay, I'm a geek. Anyone surprised?
