I was sitting here at my desk in the study, chatting with my MPTT comods while the contractor worked next door in the study, when suddenly the floor felt like it was rippling underneath me. My first thought was, "Damn! What is he doing over there and does he realize that he's shaking the whole house?!" At right around the same time, Mike (the contractor) calls, "I think the Comcast guy is on the roof because the roof is shaking!" Except ... there was no Comcast guy. We don't even have Comcast.

And one contractor isn't going to do anything in the bathroom that makes the whole house shake either.

We had an earthquake. Turns out a 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit in western Virginia, possibly the strongest recorded quake for that state. It was obviously much less than 5.9 by the time it reached us in far-northern Maryland, but as far north as Maine and as far south as South Carolina reported feeling it as well. It was ... weird. We have quakes on occasion here, but always very mild, and I've never felt one. The last one was so mild that I slept through it.

We don't have any damage but there are certainly reports of damage. (Including that the Washington Monument might have gotten shaken up a little! O.O) East-coast friends, I hope all is well.
