I should have mentioned this before - sorry if my reviews seem 'bitty' - I just tend to read and comment as I go!
That's okay! I take reviews however they come, "bitty" or not. And I love your reviews because they give very specific feedback, which lets me know what works and what doesn't.
The very first line gave me shivers... maybe the double meaning was unintentional, I don't know, but Nelyo's missing arm just seemed like a shadow of the future!
Oh, my! That was unintentional! Wow, you've a keen eye to notice it!
I never could quite get my head around Fëanor’s early marriage. It seemed very unlike the Elves and was perhaps the first sign that this one was a bit - unusual!
I agree. So many of Fëanor's traits suggest impatience and obsessiveness, and his early marriage to Nerdanel is certainly one of them. I also take it to mean that their love was very strong in the beginning...and that makes its ultimate failure all the more tragic, I think. It gets on my nerves when I read stories where the marriage between Fëanor and Nerdanel is only one of obligation or very little love. Yes, because they married as children and had seven sons together because they merely *tolerated* each other. (Sorry for the tangent! Moving on....)
Celegorm's love of his brother and desire to protect him just made me go 'awww!' I think the one thing that never changes about him is his devotion and loyalty, even when it leads him down the wrong path.
Oh, goody! ::does happy dance:: That is totally what I was going for! But I never know, when writing, if my characters are coming across as I wish. Thinking on what (little bit) is known about Celegorm, his extreme devotion makes the most sense to me as a reason for his "fall" later down the line.
A playful Fëanor is so refreshing - even though he is a stern task-master it's nice to see him as a father as well - I think it gets forgotten that if his children didn't love him, then would never have sworn the oath!
Yes, something I remind myself when he seems beyond arrogant and awful: that he must have been a good person at one time to have won the love of so many. (And I am determined to find that person! Although he makes it difficult at times.... ;P)
Much thanks again for the wonderful review! I appreciate that you took the time to make so many comments. Thank you--again! :)
