I also started my own "religion" when I was a kid, which was a nature spirituality a lot like what I practice today! :) It came complete with rules that prevented me from having to do things I didn't want to do. Like it didn't allow pierced ears because that gave me a reason to avoid pressure to get my ears pierced! :D I made the favorite trees and rocks in the woods behind my house into monuments.
people don't want simplicity and keep muddying everything, especially religion and basic principles of humanity until we are in a mess too huge to extricate ourselves from.
I think that, sadly, at the heart of so-called human nature is to find a reason to make ourselves superior to others around us so that we can collect more resources unto ourselves. This is uncharacteristically pessimistic of me, I know! :) I just live my life according to my principles of peace and hope that it will inspire/encourage others to do the same.
