That can definitely be an issue here too. Because most colonies are brought north from the South, then there is the occasional report of a partly Africanized colony that makes it to Maryland.
The good news is that they're not quite that saucy and they also haven't shown heavy festooning, which is a trait of Africanized bees and one of the ways that I know our local master beekeepers have identified Africanized colonies.
