I don't have any problem with angsty!angry!Maglor. I've read excellent portrayals of him like this...and also in ways that I think make him too soft and weak, for the reasons you define. Different strokes for different folks. :) I maybe should have been clearer that this is my opinion at this point in the story; he's still very naive and innocent and not as prone to angst as his brothers, even the little ones. Still, thinking on it further, he does have angst in this story regarding his father...but I just like to keep him a little more demure than the others for now. I'm trying to give each character a unique personality and voice, and at this point, Macalaure happens to be the softest.
He, of course, will have plenty of reason for angst and rage later. But my Macalaure at this point isn't prone to Nelyoesque tearing of the hair and suicidal ideation. ;)
