Mm. I had a right think about Indis before taking her up, and came up with this, among more game-specific ideas: "Indis ran away and married a Noldorin widower, one with a son who probably already disliked her—this, then, is a brave, convention-busting woman, and probably one who didn't identify much with her family (hi, Uncle Spooge-bucket!)* or the Vanyar in general**."
*Ingwe; ours isn't all that likeable. I think it was Feanor and Fingolfin who came up with the nickname. **Arguable, but works neatly for my concept.
