Awwww! Dawn, this was a fantastic chapter and I smiled from ear to ear all the way through it. I even managed not to angst too much, because the whole chapter was punctuated with amusing moments.
You know, despite Macalaure being the speaker, Nelyo is the one who fills this chapter and almost everything is about him. I could literally feel Macalaure's loneliness without his brother and then the sheer joy of his return. They are so beautiful together. And I think I know where my impulse to place Maitimo as the head of the family comes from, like we've discussed before in my LJ. AMC Nelyo is the calm, loving, caring character, the one who is always there when needed and who's attention almost never wavers. I've only extended his care (and some other...umm...things) to Feanaro as well, thinking that, as Nelyo grows older, his father will confide in him 100%. Granted, it must be a tough job, looking after everyone, but he seems to be doing really well.
Of course, I loved every little mention of Feanaro, including his scruffy appearance. It pains me to see that Macalaure continues to be so insecure and unsure of his father's respect and his place within his family. It would have brought Feanaro and Nerdanel great joy and pride to attend to the recital, of that I am certain.
Speaking of which, those paragraphs describing Macalaure's and Vingaire's song were incredible, a string of metaphors that left me open-mouthed, just like their stunned audience. WOW! *bows*
I snickered when Macalaure's eyes went wide, hearing Nelyo casually calling the Telerin King simply "Olwe". And I laughed out loud trying to picture poor Macalaure falling asleep and being covered in sand. Lol, I like that fiancee of his. She is naughty enough to mingle with the Feanorians if she wants to.
You have every right to be happy with this chapter, it is great and I've enjoyed myself a lot, reading it. {Huggles} and thanks for sharing.
