I'd agree. He's certainly learning how to convince people "I'm okay"...even himself. But I think it's a survival tactic for him now. I've been there: It does no good to wallow in sadness. Sometimes, you have to yank yourself up, go to work, and say, "Dammit, I'm okay." And even those few hours of believing that are bliss.

Possibly. I might be more convinced if I thought that Nelyo was actually being so sensible as you. I suspect he's more at the denial stage of things. He's desperately trying to convince the world and himself that he's okay, but the only people who believe him are people who don't know him. I think even he doesn't believe his own lies about his emotional state.

my experience is with guitar and strings that are either steel or nylon. Both did a number on my fingers. ;)

And that's why God invented instrument teachers. The really good ones make sure that their students don't hurt themselves while practicing. We have a 'cello teacher at the University who really takes care of his students. He teaches the Feldenkrais Method to help them learn how to move more efficiently, and he looks after how they're feeling, as well. He's made his students confront serious emotional problems and coached them through finding therapists. He's a seriously awesome teacher.
