I had all intentions of doing a four-drabble series on Monday and catching up from there, but alas, real life intervened. Between dealing with my car and an unexpected shower of warrants from the Warrant Gods and trying to finish my hubby's ghost story in time for his birthday, the drabble went the way of the dodo. Then yesterday's word was "cum." Cum! No, not meant in that way, but it's not a word I was willing to use in a drabble. Call me crazy. But today's word is simply too good to pass up. So consider this the resurrection (again) of the daily drabble.

hobbledehoy \HOB-uhl-dee-hoy\, noun:
An awkward, gawky young fellow.

Examples
"For early on, girls become aware -- as much from their fathers' anguished bellows of "You're not going out dressed like that, Miss" as from the buffoonish reactions of the spotty hobbledehoys at the end-of-term disco -- of the power of clothes to seduce."
-Jane Shilling, "Soft-centred punk", Times (London), October 27, 2000

"His memories, even only reveries, of incomparable women, made me feel like a hulking hobbledehoy."
-Edith Anderson, Love in Exile

"Unfortunately, they have to contend with ignorant hobbledehoys who, on seeing these rows of shingle heaps, feel compelled to jump on them."
-Susan Campbell, "He grows seakale on the seashore", Daily Telegraph, March 27, 1999

Etymology
The origin of hobbledehoy is unknown, though it perhaps derives from hobble, from the awkward movements of a clumsy adolescent.

This day's drabble is Maedhros and Fingon. In a friendly context, people! (Jenni and Alina, I can see your raised eyebrows and hear you thinking, "I just bet they were friendly!") You're welcome to interpret any subtext that you want, but I meant it as "friendly" in the non-nefarious sense, for once. Really.

This after I noticed a typo in the earlier paragraph: "This day's drabble is Maedhros in Fingon." Just low blood sugar. Nothing nefarious. Really.

Reunion
Years passed without seeing him, and though I knew that he grew—as all young Elves do—I saw him forever as the gangly hobbledehoy with stammering speech and footfalls alike, ignored except for his acts of foolishness.

Hardly a prince.

So now, at our reunion, I look for him among the throng. (He has a way of making his presence known in a crash of dishes or rippling murmur of offense.) There is a man—tall, clearly a lord, with gold entwined in his hair; my heart squeezes at his beauty. I will ask him of my cousin Findekano.

SNERRRRRRKKKK!!!

Oh, but Dawn! The drabble was lovely. And it made me all squiggly inside! I just want to picture that Maedhros took him in his arms and squeezed him silly.

Ahem, I feel I have somthing to add here. My Maedhros and Fingon would like to point out there was nevery anything but simple friendliness between them. Yes. Absolutely.

Um, well, apart from what is nefariously implied in that icon. *points* ..obviously. They were simply admiring each other's, er, friendliness at the time, yes, that was it.

I've got a drabble for you.

His partner rolled over, a look of disdain clouding her face. Her smudged make-up looked passionless in the fading light, extending from her mouth like deep red frown lines. She grunted her disapproval, slinking out of bed without a word or a kiss.

Soon, the heavy door slammed with the final timpani bang of the couple’s swan song.

The boy lay in the fetal position, tears of shame clouding his vision. He fought back against the puddles of shame, cursing the smirking god that had zinged him again tonight. He felt like such a hobbledehoy.

He had cum too quickly. ;)

Well... apparently, the keyboard and your fingers know a little something-something about the friendly friendliness between these very friendly Elves.

Love the way you portrayed Fingon as a clumsy youngster. It makes him so sweet and endearing. Nefarious thoughts aside, I'm with everyone else when saying that I want Maitimo to hug him silly, grope him silly and bang his manly cousin silly, against a wall. In a friendly way, of course. (or the other way around, why not?)

and it let me stay true to Felak!verse that Maedhros is very comfortable in his body.

I'll let you stew on that image a bit. Kinda like "mastering" Feanaro. Hehe. ;)

Damn you, Dawn Felagund, damn you! I must go and have a cold shower now... *mutter, mutter* Oh, BTW, in Alina!verse, Feanaro feels very comfortable in Maitimo's body, too. So there! You have a cold shower now!

Oh, nutz! Erestor does not want me to write Maitimo/Feanaro anymore and he threatens never to speak to me again if I let Maitimo fool around with his precious Feanaro. I ought to slap him senseless and point out the fact that Feanaro, is, in fact, MINE! and I can do with him as I please.

Soopid muses!

Hehe. This reminds me of my Hamlet essay. After writing on it for hours without a break I came to describing the scene in Elsinore's chapel and that's what I wrote:

"Hamlet is nearing Claudius from behind with his sword drawn."

I looked at it. Blinked. Broke out in a fit of hysterical laughter. I fear that's what reading too much slash fiction does to you. ;)

This drabble is lovely. And here at last, I think the word "lovely" fits. :) *is now off to read AMC*

Ye-hes. I actually tried to express it in a less suggestive way but failed utterly. ;)

I'm going to do that every time you post with that icon, you know.

No problem. In fact, I understand you very, very well. :-D
