Another Fannish Note!

For those of you who haven't seen already, we're doing a special project on SWG for July called Seven in '07. It seems that this year holds a special day--07/07/07--which got me thinking that all those sevens make it necessary to honor the House of Feanor.

So we've decided to do a compilation of creative work that will accompany a history of each member of the House of Feanor. The Feanorians have certainly inspired their share of creativity among fans of The Silmarillion, and we hope to acknowledge this. Generally, I steer away from Feanorians on SWG because they tend to overshadow the other characters ... and the authors who write about other characters. But in July, we're embracing everything Feanorian!

As part of the Seven in '07 project, though, we are collecting creative work related to the Feanorians. We are looking for short fiction, poetry, artwork, and excerpts of longer works. The full details are available on the Seven in '07 page on the website. The due date is Sunday, 24 June, and yes, that is very close. Unfortunately, I have to have it that way because I don't know how much Internet/computer access I will have around the time we are scheduled to move, so I'd like to have the whole project completed and ready to upload by the time moving day arrives.

But Feanorian fans on Ye Flist, I am begging, pleading, and cajoling for Feanorian-related writing and artwork to include in this project. Even one or two things would be wonderful ... though I'm not going to say no to one hundred either! We're going to make our best effort to put something up from everyone who sends something into us, so no fears about your efforts being in vain. But since part of the purpose of the project is to show the diverse creativity inspired by this group of Elves, the more authors and artists represented, the better!

It may be out of topic, but where did you find the pictures of Maedhros and Maglor for your avatar? I know all the others, but not those two.

The avatar was actually created by a friend of mine aramel_calawen. Looking at her userpics, she lists Anna Lee as the artist. I tried to find a homepage for her or a listing on dA--anything!--and came up pretty empty. I did find this for Maedhros and this for Maglor ... but the site isn't in English, so I can't tell much else, if this is her site (or archive) or simply someone else putting up her work. I also found a blog that looks like it might belong to her, but most of the characters won't even display in my browser, so I can't be sure.

I hope this helps, if just a little. Sorry I don't have more proper information; I've wondered about this artist a good bit too because she creates such simple yet beautiful work, but I've had trouble tracking her down.

Taking inspiration from the exchange Rhapsody and I had on the forum, I one-clicked on Amazon last night and ordered The Number Sense: How the Mind Creates Mathematics by Stanislas Dehaene. My plan, best laid and all that, is to get an entry on number sense slapped up the Refuge for 07.07.07. Although not explicitly Fëanorian, don't be surprised if I make an obscure dedication to my favorite long-suffering scientist hero. You all will know who I mean. :^)

That's awesome! It always amuses me how conversations on SWG spin into tangents completely unrelated to the original topic. How did a question about Amrod and Amras at Sirion turn into speculation about numbers? Perhaps it's best not to ask, to accept the inspiration as it comes. :)

I've compiled your drabbles and excerpts into a single document; I'm excited! This is taking shape for real! I wasn't sure if it was even going to work. (I know ... I should have trusted in the Feanorians to bring out the rabid fangirl in all of us. ;)

Also, I got your story ... I can't wait to read it! Soon, I will need to read it, if only to have a moment not working on warrants, moving, or SWG, which are the three components of Life(tm) lately.

I deserve a whole "Kick Me" suit. :^P

livingshapes has all of the recent stuff, I think. I guess that would be the homepage to link to, too, because the Elfwood thing is hopelessly outdated and I haven't put anything on DA yet... Credit as Oloriel is fine.

I like this idea quite a lot. I may even dust off some of my (ancient ancient ancient) Feanorian plot bunnies and see if any of them are viable, although I make no guarantees. It's been a while since I've been in this fandom, after all!
