1) Just got off the phone with The Patriarch. I asked mum to call me so that I could ask about dad's refrigerated personality on Friday, but alas, dad called back. Anyway, whatever slights we may have been interpretted as making, they seem to be forgiven because he was in very good spirits and we talked for a good fifteen minutes. Hmmm.
So, Project Poke the Monster: failed
I shall have to think of a new tactic to bring up last week without revealing my sister's "treachery." Gah.
2) I had a really nerdy idea yesterday. It combines Elves and chocolate. Okay, minds out of the gutter. It's getting crowded in here.
In an LJ conversation,

Which inspired me to think: "Why, Felak, you can do very detailed paintings in chocolate!"
So sometime in the next few months, expect a picture post of Elven heraldry done entirely in chocolate! :^P
(There actually is a practical application to my business, too, in doing heraldry, coats-of-arms and such: I could do people's family crests. People go for weird things and this seems an interesting thing to have at a reunion. Hmmm.)
3) In other candy-related news, I have learned that I possess an enviable skill in making cordial cherries. I used to make cordial cherries by filling the molds halfway with chocolate and then painting it up the sides, which takes a while and always requires a touch-up coat after refrigeration, which takes even longer.
When I first learned candymaking from my mom, she and my dad (who can also make candy) talked with awe of women who used to pour the chocolate for cordial cherries and then roll it around the mold, doing all eight molds at the same time. So Saturday, I was alone in the apartment and so--if I made an embarrassing mess, no one would know--I thought, "What the heck."
It worked great. I'm starting to think that I might actually be able to do this.
4) Bobby's hockey team tied their game last night. Yay, Dragonfish! The team they played is undefeated in the C-league, so it was quite an accomplishment. Bobby said the other team was pissed too, to be stuck in a tied shutout with the Dragonfish. Ha!
5)I have at least a half-million crazy fonts on this new computer. I can almost hear my dad yelling in rage as I contemplate actually using them.... :^P
(I have a Gothic font! I've never had a Gothic font before! Sheesh, I am such a nerd....)
Oh, and I'm in the process of catching up on my friend's page. I saw so many entries to which I wanted to write long, loooong comments, but I know my tendencies toward logorrhea*, and I have so much to do...but I'm reading along and enjoying keeping up with everyone, per usual. :)
*Logorrhea is my new favorite word. It means excessive talking, and I think I fit that bill. Plus it sounds gross--but it's really not.

Date: 2005-12-19 08:49 pm (UTC)Cordial cherries are cherries that are first soaked in brandy (or any liquor, but I use brandy). Then, a candy mold is coated in chocolate and the boozed-up cherry and a bit of liquid are poured inside. The mold is then sealed with a top layer of chocolate.
After refrigeration firms the chocolate, you pop the candies out of the molds and end up with a chocolate shell filled with cherry and juice. Quite good, I hear, although I've actually never had one. I've made hundreds but never eaten one myself.

Still, not so lame. ;)

Mmmm, delicious cherry cordials...
I generally skip the cherry and go straight for the cordial. :^P

The artery-clogging, eye-dazzling cook-off of the year! Felak versus The Butter Lady go head-to-head in creating projects to expand both your horizons and your waistline! Sunday Sunday Sunday!"

Oooh, here's an idea for Poke The Monster II: Instead of trying to talk to your Dad about your problems, write him a letter. . . on your computer. . . using as many different fonts as you can. . . then run.

Date: 2005-12-20 02:31 am (UTC)I'm picturing an interesting mix of people to show up for that. Geeks and fundies...hey, I could get some volunteers for my calendar!

*snerk* You're more evol than me, you know.
It would have to go on brightly colored paper. He hates that too. And I'd fold it in half, crookedly of course.
