The last week or so has been really nice. I'm productive again, getting things done, but not overwhelmed to the point where I am neglecting things that should be getting done but can't possibly fit into my schedule.
And there's two things that I've been chronically neglecting, which is odd, as they are two of the things about which I am most enthusiastic:
Edit: "Elves Are Cool" icon has been made. (see results on this post) Now I am free to add as many new icons as I want. But first I'm going to hack into Bobby's account and change his default icon to "Oh Yay. Elves Are Cool."
- Beta work!!! Actually, last week, I finished a story and a packet of stuff from Antithesis Common, so I don't feel so overwhelmingly behind. The authors for whom I beta are such wonderfully patient people. Alina, you're next! Your story is sitting in my data deposit box, just waiting, probably to be begun as soon as I finish the LJ entry.
- Finish latest D&D Adventure. Actaully, I started on this last night. It was hard in a weird way: When my sister called me with the news about my grandmother, I was working on this adventure. In the past few weeks, I have known that I need to work on it, yet have not been able to, as though continuing the story in absence of my grandmother is some form of acceptance. I don't expect this to make sense.
Incidentally, since I've decided to make some major changes to the adventure, parts of what already existed prior to learning about Nanny were also changed. Which somehow makes me feel better, as though when I read it, I will not be thinking, "And here's where everything changes...." - Finish
isil_elensar's birthday story! Yes, Isil, I have written about four pages of your birthday story, as the Legolas muse I acquired finally managed to wriggle free of the chains that my Feanor muse put him in. While I'm at it, I need to check which of you all have upcoming birthdays deserving of stories! If you haven't given me your birthday and want a story, now's a good time to let me know. ;)
- Stop neglecting Nelyo's. Yes, I've been bad and haven't read my books in over a week now.... Top of my list is to acquire some books from Kitchen Krafts that look interesting.
- Conjure some form of Super Bowl party dessert. In the past, I've made a cake decorated like a football field, but I think that might be too much for this year. I'm thinking an ice cream pie with both team logos on it. Maybe with some wee chocolate footballs along the edge, if I can find a suitable mold before Saturday? Maybe peanut butter or caramel-filled chocolate footballs??
Or maybe just a plain ol' boring ice cream pie. - Tag the
silwritersguild LJ. *despises tagging the SWG LJ, but it is a necessary evil neglected since November or so*
- It might not hurt to write a chapter summary for the Henneth-Annun Silmarillion reading sooner than the day it's due?
- Acquire some new icons. I have space for 100 and have a whopping 14. Mostly because the conditions under which Bobby bought me space for 100 require that I make an icon that says "Oh Yay Elves Are Cool" and use it on at least one post. How long would it take to make such an icon? Thirty seconds?? So why isn't it done??? ...
And there's two things that I've been chronically neglecting, which is odd, as they are two of the things about which I am most enthusiastic:
- Revise AMC. Post AMC in places other than LiveJournal. I think that once I get past the depressing mess that is the first few chapters, I will be fine with this. It's just a matter of mustering up the energy for massive revision that involves possibly running with scissors...but it must be done. Why can't stories revise themselves?
- SWG archive site. I need to get something down for this. A style sheet would be nice. A few HTML pages? I can worry about finding fiction archive codes later, but we should at least have a rudimentary homepage in the meantime. Thing is, I like writing webpages. And this project has been enough of a headache so far that I should have something to show for it.
Edit: "Elves Are Cool" icon has been made. (see results on this post) Now I am free to add as many new icons as I want.

Date: 2006-02-02 02:47 pm (UTC)Seriously, since high school, I've had been involved in so many projects that I can barely keep them all straight...and in those ten years, it's gotten to the point where I become miserable if I don't have a dozen things going on at one time.
Like I said...a sick woman!
I will post a picture and description of the Super Bowl treat, whatever it winds up being! Probably some sort of ice cream pie, as they are fairly easy and nonetheless impressive. It will involve wee chocolate caramel-filled footballs, though: I got the molds last night and have a bit of caramel laying around the house.
(You'd only hear a confectioner say that! :^P)
And as for your story, I'm halfway through, and with all your griping, expected it to be so bad, but I don't see why you dislike it so much! Silly woman...you underestimate yourself. ;)
Any reason why you don't like it? Because really, I don't think it's terrible at all...in fact, I am quite enjoying it! :)

Yea, if managing to do so many things, and always get the job well done makes you a sick woman, then I want what you've got! Is it contagious? *crosses fingers*

OMG! *salivates* Too bad you're a continent and an ocean away! I'd get on a plane and pay you a little surprise visit if you were not that far away.

Well, it's not that I don't like it. Or that it's so terrible. I liked the idea that what I was trying to convey and the way I meant for the characters to form a bond. But after reading it, when it was done, it just felt inconsistent. Like I should have said more. I don't know... I also forced most of it out of me. I didn't make funny faces like a few mornings ago, on the buss, while writing it. No, in fact, I was grimacing from the sheer effort of filling in the blanks between the character's lines. I did not give the story any of myself, except for the last part. (for example, I'm working on the smutfest and I'm so implicated in it that it's turning out to be so much more than pr0n. And it's so much fun to write, especially because of this.)
I'm glad you are enjoying it, though. ;)

Date: 2006-02-02 09:03 pm (UTC)Lol! I wish it was! I could reinvent the government, save taxpayers billions of dollars.... ;)
Of course, a lot of what I do--writing, beta-reading, keeping up with SWG--is done at work. I am fortunate that my job requires (usuallly) no more than three hours of concentrated effort from me per day.

Well, if you ever find yourself visiting the USA.... ;)
Just so you know, since I don't think you were on my flist when I made this declaration, anyone who comes into Nelyo's and can name the seven sons of Feanor in Quenya gets free ice cream!
But after reading it, when it was done, it just felt inconsistent. Like I should have said more. I don't know...
I've had this happen, shortly after writing stories/chapters that I basically had to force into existence. I reread it and think, "Yuck." I fight the urge to delete it and start again and let it sit for a few months' time. Then, usually, upon rereading, I discover it isn't as bad as I remember.
I'm not saying that this will work for you as it does for me, but I do understand where you're coming from. I'm tempted to ramble on now, but I've been leaving you lots of comments, so I'll save it all for then.

Date: 2006-02-03 08:11 pm (UTC)I want a job like that, too, but I'd also love to have one that demands my full attention for even more that the traditional 8 hours.

Miam, miam! Will do! But what if I can also name all the Finwions (including Maeglin) by their Quenya names? *is shamelessly greedy*
You'll probably recongnize me, if I walk in and say "Wow! Maitimo's got his own business!" and I'll be wearing a self-made T-shirt that says Teh Biggest Feanor Fangurl. ;)

Thank you so much for every comment and every bit of ramble we've ever exchanged! I've just gone through the beta-ed story and I'm so very grateful for all the advice. And the wonderful words!
Oh, you're not a hard-ass beta, either! ;p
