Last night, I began working on my dessert project for the Super Bowl. I was a bit torn over what I wanted to do: my traditional cake decorated like a football field? An ice cream cake or pie with both team logos? Or a chocolate-caramel ice cream pie?

I ended up with the latter for the simple fact that I don't have icing supplies and didn't want to buy them, nor did I want to use commercial icing, which is expensive and hard to use. (Take it from one who used it all of the time at The Piece, being the only employee who knew how to decorate cakes.)

The pie has a chocolate graham cracker crust that is filled with chocolate ice cream. The drizzle across the top is caramel; it is bordered in whipped cream and caramel-filled football candies. Everything is homemade except for the whipped cream. I cheated there because I wanted the pretty floret shapes that are easy to achieve with canned whipped cream.

It came out looking pretty good:

And while looking at the pictures on the camera, I found this one of one Dawn Felagund acting like an idiot in the kitchen, in those heady days when holiday candy consumed my evenings.

Luckily, Bobby takes blurry pictures because I look very scary.

OMG! *gulps*

I think that, if you had me over there when the pie was ready, you would have hardly had the chance to take a picture. I would have been picking on those delicious footballs. I just luuuv chocolate and caramel. That's one yummy masterpiece. Compliments to the artist who does not look scary at all. In fact, you look cute and amused, even though those days were probably hella-busy.

Pity your photo is blurry, but in the miniature looks quite sharp. Good idea to post it :)

Nifty pie. I may shift into Professional Pony mode in a few days and ask you some more about it, but Personal Pony thinks it looks great. And I like the picture of you in the kitchen. For a galley kitchen, you have a good setup, and I envy the gas stove.

I also grew up with electric, to the point where I asked my best friend to teach me to use a gas stove right before I moved to Chicago, where gas stoves are standard for apartments. I fell in love with gas stoves despite the fact that one of mine nearly killed me. They are so much better to work with than the electric that I have right now.

*refrains from commenting...may mention 75 TD run*

Now, if you'd photoshopped in your muses, that would be scary...

Though, the scary part would be that you photoshopped in your muses. ;P

I'm now going to suffer great fridge-envy over the enormous size of your fantastic fridge. *ogles*

*drooooool* That pie would be a hit with my family... though I bet everyone would be stealing the footballs off it or dipping their fingers in the whipped cream while not eating any actual slices. :D

Can a future sis-in-law pull some strings to get some ice cream pie? I wonder if customs would check if it were perishable goods

thank ya :-) and I would never ask Bobby to turn a blind eye like that...unless it were absolutely necessary ;-) and even then I'd bribe him with some of the good shortbread he seems to like so much.

Ooo, the cake looks gorgeous!
And... good to see you. :o) Weird how you picture people you´ve never seen. I figured you were dark-haired. And much smaller.

As a rule I look pretty strange on anything resembling some ID-type-thingy. I will have to get new ones soon, since I plan on applying for a job at a TV station and the old ones look rather... eh, incompetent. ;-)

The best chocolate ice cream I've ever had was in Italy, one time in a small town in Tuscany, the other in Rome, somewhere near Piazza della Rotonda (it's rather funny, but I always remember quite well exactly where I can get good food, hehe). The one in my favourite ice-cream parlour is quite nice, too. And since I guess all of these were homemade, I have to agree with you. Definitely better than the stuff you get at the supermarket! Oh, and caramel and chocolate is definitely OTP. ;-)
