Etymology
Benignant comes from the present participle of Late Latin benignare, from Latin benignus, "kind, friendly."


The past few days, I have done serious drabbles bordering on depressing. But given today's word--and today's mood--I can't do that. After all, I get to leave work in a mere forty-five minutes and don't have to be back in my cell office until Monday. So it's high time for a light, fluffy, fun, happy drabble. Actually, double drabble. (If I'm going to break the mold, why not break it big time?)

Continuing the Tradition
It is my fiftieth begetting day, and my two younger brothers awaken me early, before the Mingling. “Turko, come,” says Carnistir—still using that outdated name—“Curvo and I have planned a private celebration for just the three of us.”

I know what they have in mind, for I have been guilty of it twice now: This “private celebration” is in fact an excuse for a prank. I know because I did it first to Maitimo and then Macalaurë.

And truthfully, I’d expected those two. After all, they have reason for exacting revenge; Maitimo claims to have waited for this day for thirty-two years.

I wonder, then, should I suspect Carnistir and Curufinwë? Carnistir, with his murderous mystique, and Curvo, who inherited our father’s looks, temperament, and even his talent but not a drop of his sense of humor?

They lead me to Carnistir’s room, where there is a bottle of liquor on the table. Curvo pours three glasses; Carnistir hands me mine, and we all raise to each other. “In honor of our brother,” Carnistir says.

Clever gits…they both duck aside when I spit out the vinegar.

“Just continuing the tradition,” says Curvo, and I do believe he smiles.

Awwww! I have been looking forward to see how you write Kurvo. I just loved the bit where you said that he has not inherited any of Feanaro's humor. They are all so cute and playful, bringing a big smile on my face.

Of course, this bit: “Curvo and I have planned a private celebration for just the three of us.” made me think pervy thoughts. But that's just my perviness kicking back in.

Hmmm... that's very interesting. I wonder what the boys did to him. (because I know what Feanaro did and it's in one of the drabbles I've scribbled and posted today.) >;)

Curvo is a CiP: Character in Progress. :^P Have you ever seen my story "Paper" for fanged_geranium's birthday last October? That's probably the best Curvo I've done so far. (And one of my favorite short stories I've done! /SSP :^]] )

I'm working on his character, bit by bit. He's a lot like Feanor, of course, but I also want him to be his own person; I want him to fit the canon but also to be sympathetic. It's a tough balance, as usual.

But that's just my perviness kicking back in.

*giggles* Yes, I guess three hott Elves in a room is a catalyst for you! >:^P

"Paper" is like a total favorite of mine! I picked that when you did your poll a while ago. I love Curufinwë and I am thrilled to see that you wrote him into a story (well, a drabble) again! How adorable are these three brothers? Listen, I know you have a lot of fics on your agenda, Dawn, but honestly: I don't think anyone's done a story on these three cuties as youngsters. What a fabulous idea it would be to write their 'growing up' story! What do you say?

The story following AMC will involve the conception/birth of Curvo, so then the story will follow the 3Cs growing up. So I hope that will grant your wish. ;)

I never knew that you liked "Paper" that much. It's one of my favorites too just because it practically wrote itself, so it was a delight to see how it turned out! :)
