These small stories are for [livejournal.com profile] rinnor, who said, "I'd like to see a story about forgiveness among the Noldor in Aman. Since they're an immortal people, and tribal, I imagine that social pressure would push both parties to resolve their differences, but that's my interpretation ... Whereas mortals can take a grudge to the grave, how does an immortal come to terms with a grievance against another, when s/he is likely to see the other party, well, forever."

This was a wonderfully thought-provoking challenge, one that I thought I could tackle two ways: in a novella (or longer) or as a series of shorter pieces. Needless to say, for now, I had to choose the latter. :)

Therefore, what follows are three fixed-length ficlets, each about a different kind of forgiveness among the Noldor. (Though only two take place in Aman ... I hope you can forgive me!) This series is a nice safe General rating on SWG, and I have no particular warnings to offer for any of these.

Young Fëanáro is confronted by his father about his biggest flaw: his inability to find forgiveness for his new half-brother. A quibble (500 words).

Unforgiving )

Maitimo learns from his baby brother about loss, pride, and forgiveness. A quadrabble (400 words).

Broken )

Nolofinwë on why even the most grievous deeds must be forgiven. 700 words.

The Spiderweb )
Word of the Day for 30 March 2006--benignant )

The past few days, I have done serious drabbles bordering on depressing. But given today's word--and today's mood--I can't do that. After all, I get to leave work in a mere forty-five minutes and don't have to be back in my cell office until Monday. So it's high time for a light, fluffy, fun, happy drabble. Actually, double drabble. (If I'm going to break the mold, why not break it big time?)

Continuing the Tradition )
[livejournal.com profile] alassante asked for a Fëanorian drabble. Now, seeing as I wrote full stories for everyone else, it seemed a bit unappreciative of Alassante--who has become a good friend in just a few weeks--to give her a mere hundred words. So I hope you don't mind, Al, that I've expanded on your request a bit and did a drabble series for you about your favorite Elf Curufinwë and his son Celebrimbor.

(By the way, I apologize if I got his Quenya name wrong; I got it from a dubious Internet source. Please feel free to correct my spelling.)

In this series, first Curufin, then Celebrimbor, ponder their heritage and its impositions on their freedom. Indeed, I have always wondered that all of the Finwions seem their own people, but Fëanaro, Curufin, and Celebrimbor seem like slightly varied versions of each other. But that is a ramble for another time. :)

This drabble series is rated a nice safe general with no particular warnings.

Reflections of Curufinwë )
[livejournal.com profile] rhapsody11 missed my initial invitation to request stories, but already, I had in mind that I would write something for her, because she posted a holiday wish list, and one of the items was a request for holiday-themed stories.

So here's my best attempt at a nice story that includes both Feanorians and holiday themes, as Celegorm ponders gifts given and received on the journey north to Araman.

May you get all your wishes and more. :)

First of all, I need to get some personal business out of the way:

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] fanged_geranium!

...and...

Congratulations, [livejournal.com profile] arandil13!

Okay, now that I've done obnoxious big!fonts and marquee for the day, onto the story!

Actually, I wrote this story for the aforementioned [livejournal.com profile] fanged_geranium's birthday. It always seems, when I want to write a birthday story, that I have this amazing drought of inspiration. So I spend the better part of the two weeks leading up to said birthday, wringing my hands and sometimes the necks of my muses, trying to come up with something that fits their preferences, my preferences, and my abilities. (Because I am a totally selfish author. I will not write characters for whom I feel little or nothing. Not even as an experiment.)

So, driving to Subway for lunch on Monday, I was assaulted once again by the mantra: "S***. [livejournal.com profile] fanged_geranium's birthday is on Wednesday. I have to write her a story. Something. I've had some of my best Sil discussions with her. She spends so much time on and selflessly shares such wonderful resources."

And this little inkling of an idea came to me....

As with all my birthday stories, it is very raw and a bit experimental. I appreciate any and all comments, as usual.

Also, it's cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] silwritersguild. Apologies to friends of both for the redundancy.

On a completely unrelated note, I haven't forgotten the daily drabbles for yesterday and today. They'll probably be posted tonight. I am sickeningly far behind on my beta/review work, still have to eat lunch, and ARGH!!

Where's the 36-hour day??

Okay, the story. For real :)

Paper )
I wrote this piece for fun, about a year ago, while feeling frisky and more than a little satirical. It is still a work in progress--although, honestly, I haven't worked on it in months--but I hope to resume it sometime soon. If you can't bear to not know the ending...well, read The Silmarillion because it is basically a retelling of the whole Nargothrond fiasco, only in overwrought, syrupy prose with a touch of stupidity.

As always, I appreciate any and all comments on my work. Or just read and enjoy!
