I haven't done the Friday memeage in ages. Here is [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive.

1. Do you have any pets? If so, how many, and what are their names?

Currently, I have one golden retriever puppy named Alex. I also have about a dozen fish. Not all have names or have names that I have forgotten. But...

Maedhros is my ginormous, monstrous feather fin catfish.
Maglor is our plecostomus.
Celegorm is our bala shark.
Amrod is my one surviving yellow cichlid.
Arafinwe is the new bright-orange cichlid.
Finwe is a blue-with-black-stripes cichlid.

In the community tank, I've forgotten their names, though I think there's an Arafinwe in there too. Oooops....

2. What was your very first pet? Do you remember its name?

Buffy was the dog that my parents had when I was born. Buffy was a stray dog that my dad brought home from the city one day. He was little and scrappy and mean if he didn't think that you belonged. He once defended my sister and me against a neighbor's aggressive German Shepherd that had jumped our fence while we were playing outside.

In short, Buffy was hella cool.

3. Is there an animal you would never have as a pet?

As I was discussing with [livejournal.com profile] pulsarkat recently, I would not want a pet that I'd have to feed live animals, even crickets. I've wanted a tarantula for years, but I am not willing to buy and feed live prey, so I'll have to be content with the critters that I get to play with at the Aquarium.

Additionally, they are beautiful, but I would never keep saltwater fish. Saltwater fish are often poached off of coral reefs, which are already in frail condition due to pollution and global warming...we don't need to tax them further so that we can have "Nemo" in a home fishtank. The same goes for tropical birds unless I know that they were born in captivity in the United States. (Though I'd likely never keep another bird. I have trouble caging them and don't have the time to spend on enrichment.) But Bobby tells horror tales of crates of parrots intercepted at the southern border, being smuggled into the US. There are some industries that I simply refuse to support.

The same goes for wild animals kept as pets, like when you hear of people in NYC keeping cougars. WTF? A tabby cat would serve equally well in its stead for me.

4. What common pet have you always wanted but never had? Why not?

To go back to #3, I've always wanted a tarantula. I think that they're cool, and it would be delightful to freak people out with one. (Aren't I nice?) Bobby even said that I could have one...but I'm not cool with feeding live prey. I'll stick with my golden retriever and cichlids, thank you!

5. What wild animal (extinct or not) would you own if you didn't have to worry about its adjustment or the cost of captivity?

I'd like a zebra. Actually, a guy I knew had two zebras, and I used to pass them every day on my way to The Piece.

As far as fantasy animals go, of course, I'd keep Elves. Or unicorns.

And [livejournal.com profile] fannish5: What five scenes from fanfic (yours or anyone else's) would you like to see illustrated?

1. One has already been done by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] oloriel: that is my poor mutilated Rumil in the mask that Feanor makes him in AMC.

2. Telvo and Nandolin on that rock in the woods in "By the Light of Roses." *evil grin*

3. I'd like a semi-abstract rendition of something from the Halls of Mandos as I see it in "Return to Me" or "The Tapestries."

4. A scene involving the roses in "By the Light of Roses," either the happy scene or the sad one. (Can that count as two? This is harder than I thought!)

5. The House of Orome in AMC, built in the trees, with its winding stairways that always go where one needs them to go.

I decided that I'll never get a bird when I found out that they wake up at 5 AM and tell you about it. I don't get up before 9 AM unless strictly necessary (unfortunately, it's often necessary).

Do muses count as pets?

As far as illustrations go, I'm like a four year old. I would love a nice life-like illustrated version of most fanfics I've read!! Or maybe a flip book. ;)

Muses definitely count as pets since pets are--as far as I can tell--pushy and noisy, a pain in the ass, always hungry, and noisy. And muses are all of the above.

LOL!! Sounds perfectly logical to me!

My friend has a parrot that sings "*thbth* Bird shit!" whenever it poos. *giggle*

That one's actually in planning, if I ever figure out how to deal with nekkid anatomy. So far, unfortunately, I'm grateful if I can hide my complete ignorance as far as anatomy and proportion are concerned under layers of clothing. I mean, Nerdanel in my latest pic was originally supposed to be naked because bathing in a dress at that point doesn't even make sense, but, yeah. Let's forget about that. *shifty eyes*

I usually post it at [livejournal.com profile] livingshapes, yes... at some point, I thought I might need a seperate art journal so I wouldn't spam my normal friendslist, and though this has long proven impractical (and probably unnecessary too), but somehow, that poor little journal feels so neglected, so I keep using it anyway. >_>

Ah, unfortunately, it's not just the "exciting" (or excited?) anatomy that's a problem, but anatomy in general. Torso muscles, rib outlines, shoulder blades and the like are just as impossible as are the nethers. ;) I figure I'll find some way to learn that, eventually, but currently I just don't have the time. *le sigh*

Not at all, on the contrary! ^_^

I've considered that too; then again, I can't follow intructions very well and can't copy well either, so it'd probably be money wasted and lots of frustration. Alas. I need the Elves to model for me. *shifty eyes*

Amrod is my one surviving yellow cichlid.

O.o Amras is dead? Well thanks Nerdanel for calling him the fated one...

How are my boys doing btw? I know you must get bored to read me asking that over and over again, but it kinda feels I adopted them ;)

LOL mind --> gutter ;)

Oh! I didn't read half of by light of the roses (because of the adult slash warning). I do - by means of your words -have an image of Mandos, but I only can attempt to create an image with using words because unfortunately I cannot paint of draw. I used to be good with that, but that was 15 years ago, if not more.

I have a few scenes I'd love to see illustrated, and I have my fav artist in mind, but I can't pay for the commission request. Maybe one day I can.

Hmmm nice meme's. Nr 5 sounds very lovely btw, I so have a different view of that one LOL! To come, a bit in Requiem, I hope... *wanders off to muse on the meme*

Does that mean that you read some of it? If so, I'm shocked! In a good way! :) Though that poor story is in serious need of revision.

I think I read the first chapter, but then I read it would be very adult slash or somewhere you put out warnings. Since that isn't really my thing in Tolkien fan fic, I quit reading. I do read general tolkien slash (up tp pg-13) because the emphasis is very different. Yes I know that I do beta a nc-17 slash story since a couple of months, but for me going through things as a beta or to read it are two separate things. Also, I happily read it when it is canon in a fandom. So eum yeah, I am weird, it just makes me feel very uneasy with Tolkien characters. Please don't be too shocked, you sound so surprised every when I leave a review for a general-rated tolkien slash story for you.

You might be better at painting than you expect, if you used to be good. "Physical ability" memory--like riding a bike--is stored in a different place than verbal memory, so it tends not to be lost.

I know. I recently found old drawings, very nice, but there are things I want that are expensive, like new pencils since I cant find my old ones.

It'd be cool to illustrate my own stories rather than waiting for the good graces of my talented friends!

I know, that would be so great. Perhaps that is why I recently bought paint for fingerpainting for Kevin and me ;)

I just know that Tolkien slash isn't your cup of tea. :) And I was really surprised to hear that you'd read even a bit of BtLoR since that was unequivocally adult!

I try, I just try it once a while. A lot depends on the author, how familair I am with the works and such. As you noticed I do read slash implied stories written by you, so a while back, just around the time Trek convinced me to beta her cross over nc-17 slash-story. I am still on that one, the only squick feeling I had I immediately told her and she gently guided me past that. But with BtLoR I quit reading very early in the beginning before the explicit things began so I quickly backed out of that.
