The network is out at work again, which means no email, no Internet, no nuthin' until they get it fixed, which could be tomorrow or could be two weeks from now. I still have access at home, yes, but it is hard to manage everything in the couple of hours of free time at home, so if you sent me an email and I haven't replied, or left a comment and I haven't replied, it is because the wire to our great & wonderful State network is lying on the lawn again. Luckily, it is not summer so they shouldn't run over it with the lawnmower like they did last summer.
Meanwhile, work without a network is hopelessly bland. I actually spent a good amount of time playing 3D Pinball from the games that come with the Windows package. But hey, Meryth got a high score of something like 2 million.
Hopefully, I'll go in tomorrow and everything will be up and running. Since our last outage lasted two weeks, I won't hold my breath.

Date: 2007-01-17 03:27 am (UTC)I dream of the network and the phones going down, but I suppose Boss Lady would ask why I didn't use the cell phone for my meetings. And I'm compulsive enough to back up my calendar on my PDA, so no excuses there either.
Or I might be expected to actually produce something since the phone and email distractions were offline.
Still it's a nice dream, though I suspect if it happened in RL I'd get rather twitchy, constantly checking for everything to come back online.
2 million? Very impressive score!

Date: 2007-01-19 02:08 am (UTC)The good thing about guv'ment work is that people call, you say, "Computers are down," and they say, "Okay," and leave you alone! It's like, "We didn't really expect you to be working anyway!"

Meryth thanks you. ;)

I'll miss you!

Date: 2007-01-19 02:10 am (UTC)It's fixed, though I spent most of yesterday (hold onto something sturdy because this is shocking) actually working, so it might as well have still been down. I mean, I didn't get anything truly productive done, like writing. ;)
A high score of 2 million?
Yeah, in real "Lord of the Rings pinball," my high score is 10 million! Meryth is still a newby, though. ;)
And 10 mil still wasn't enough for a freakin' free game.

Date: 2007-01-17 07:52 am (UTC)...in which case the problem will never be fixed, until you´ve given the stupid twits a million chances to fix it and after one year in agony YOU FINALLY REALISE THEY DON´T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM AND THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE IT IS TO FIND ANOTHER SUPPLIER!!!
*glances suspiciously at coffee cup*
Erm...
Or something of the kind.

Date: 2007-01-19 02:14 am (UTC)Our problem is that our supplier is the government...and we all know how that goes. I mean, these are the people who shut down our network last summer because they ran over the wire with a lawnmower. No one thought, "Doh! Wire on the lawn! I should move that before rolling the lawnmower over it!"
*headdesk*
But our Internet goes down every few months for whatever reason, at which point my boss has to wrangle with our IT people to fix it, so...yeah. Been there too. ;)

Date: 2007-01-17 03:03 pm (UTC)BTW, a very belated thanks for the Christmas candy. *Looks guilty* It occurred to me today that we never thanked you or even told you it arrived, but it was here in time for Christmas and, as always, it was a big hit. We especially liked those hard candies near the bottom; maybe they were toffee? Mmmm, good...

Date: 2007-01-19 02:18 am (UTC)And he said, "We have lots of games: Freecell, Spider Solitaire, Hearts, Pinball...."
I said, "Well, I don't think I'd be into any of those," and slunk back to my office.
Unfortunately, pinball has music, so when I started it up like two seconds later, Johnny laughed his ass off. Boo. :^P
And you're welcome for the candy! I didn't expect any thank yous...you know that I have to send candy at Christmas. :) I don't know the exact name of those candies you liked; Mom made those! She did all the easy stuff and left me with chocolate-covered cherries!
(Btw, your icon is...I'm not quite sure. It just is. :^D)

Date: 2007-01-19 02:21 am (UTC)I'm generally pissed at technology at the moment. My USB key decided to corrupt between work and home today, so I lost all of my work on the HoMe project for the day as well as three chapters to the AMC prequel. *fuck*

Date: 2007-01-19 02:24 am (UTC)Speaking of HoME though, now that I am back at school where my BoLT I is, I *did* find that quote I was telling you about. So I'm not completely crazy. Yay!
