Today is just a beautiful day. Today is a day when a person is happy to be alive.
We had SCUBA training, of course, which has me insanely euphoric. (Swimming helps; endorphins = legal heroin!) We stopped for lunch at Qdoba--or "Adobos," as my f-i-l calls it--and I had a great blond moment. We were sitting and talking about how much of our SCUBA training has been mostly common sense, and I said, "That's why it has to be
taught: because most people don't have common sense." Then I went in to get an iced tea refill for the ride home. When Bobby and I eat inhouse at a restaurant, we don't use lids on our drinks to minimize plastic waste. (Yes, I recycle the plastic rings around milk bottles too! *grin*) So I got a lid, proceeded to put it on my drink, and then stuck it under the tea brewer...doh! The cup won't fill with the lid on it. I told Bobby, "Apparently, those common sense lessons in dive training were meant for me!"
Tonight, we are going to see
The Illusionist. We saw
Little Miss Sunshine on Friday, and I will review it later when I review
The Illusionist, but I will say now: See it if you get a chance. It is a
fantastic movie, and I do not say that often. At one point, I was laughing and crying at the same time. It follows a dysfunctional family through a rollercoaster of disappointments that only bring them closer, and it is not cheesy. It is freaking hilarious and not in a stupid, slapstick way but in a way that feels like the family might be real, like they might be
your own family. Go see it. I will give it a suitably long-winded and raving review later.
Oh, and the Ravens are beating the
Fuckaneers Buccaneers 27-0 right now. McNair looks great, Ray Lewis has been
awesome, and a rookie nose tackle named Ngata had an interception and run-back that was hilarious. Have you ever seen a defensive lineman run half a football field? The commentator said that he was "rumbling down the field," and that was exactly what it looked like. Bobby and I were both shouting, "Go ahead, Big Guy!" since we didn't then know his name.
I know that I swore to hate the NFL, and I still hate the NFL, but I can't forsake my Ravens. I just can't. So be prepared for some future rants about the NFL and the poor officiation. But I love my Ravens.
Okay, I am behind on memes and stuff, so here is the Friday memeage on...Sunday? Eek. Bad 'gund.
First of all,
thefridayfive:
1. If you could pick your own theme song, what would it be?
2. Now be honest...if others had to pick a song that described you, what would they choose?
3. What song would be/was the first dance at your wedding?
4. What song gets stuck in your head most often?
5. What song would you want played at your funeral?( My Answers )Okay, now for the
fannish5, which isn't one that particularly speaks to me this week. But I'll do it anyway because I'm a meme tool. (It's beyond memesheep, you see.)
What five items owned by characters in your fandom(s) would you most like to own?
( Dare I Answer, 'Silmarils?' )And finally, I don't even know why I'm embarassing myself with this meme, since I make most of my own icons, and they're pretty terrible. I've still got a lot to learn about Photoshop...and photography too, actually! But I saw this at
juno_magic (and Juno is a fabulous icon-maker, so I put her meme to shame) and think it's kind of neat. And I'm hoping that someone else will adopt this meme because I often look at the icons used by my flist and wonder as to their origins and meanings.
Look at your LJ userpics list.
If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em.
List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly (1) why you have it, (2) why it's interesting to you and (3) what significance it has.
